Missions and Ministries
"...to reach out in word and deed with faith, joy and compassion..."
Spread the Warmth is a new outreach ministry to utilize the talents of members and
friends of New Beginnings Moravian Church to provide warm cuddly hats, lap blankets,
afghans, scarves and sweatshirt jackets to the elderly, shut-ins, sick, hospitalized, those
in nursing homes and hospice patients.
If you knit, crochet, sew, and have a little time, we need your help. There will be
designated bins for donations of yarn, scraps of material or trim and sweat shirts. Cash donations will be accepted.
Those that are participating in this mission can go to these bins and select the raw material for their project. There
will be bins or shelving for you to return the finished products of lap blankets, hats, scarves, sweatshirt jackets, etc.
Anyone in the church family or in the community may come to the designated area and select an item to take to a
shut-in, a sick or hospitalized person, or hospice patient. Sign the guest book as to who is receiving the item and their
address. A card is provided to take with the item. Donations are not necessary, but if you would like to leave a love
offering or give yarn or sweatshirt to replace we thank you.
There will be an area located in the trailer for the raw materials as well as the finished products. The area is not yet
organized. We need wire shelving and wire or plastic storage compartments. Please contact Brenda Moore if you
have any of these items.
Moravian Disaster Response is sending teams to help rebuild
after the severe flooding in the Midwest. If interested in participating
on a team, please contact the Board of World Mission, MDR at
336-225-3540, 336-631-9050 ext. 1204 or 336-773-1732.
If you’d like to make a $$ donation, please make it payable to the
BWM and note on the memo line: MDR or if designated for Indiana,
please mark it MDR-IN.
Mission Tub is setup in the fellowship area for colleting mission
items. The objective is to help less fortunate
people in our community and around the world. This usually involves the
collection and delivery of
food goods, clothing, blankets, or items related to health and hygiene.
Men's Homeless Shelter - Several members and
associates of our church spent Thanksgiving and a night in January serving
meals at a Men's Homeless Shelter in Charlotte. Everyone involved felt
good about this mission and hope to continue and grow this ministry next
winter.
Mission Camps at Laurel Ridge - Adult and Youth
groups from our church have attended these in the past, and are scheduled to
attend again this summer and fall.
Hospice and Red Cross -
Our
community has several associates who are active in local Hospice
organizations, and with the Red Cross.
Stephens Ministries - We
have two members in our congregation who are certified as leaders in this multi-denominational, nationwide network of
persons trained in caring ministries. Stephen Ministers are lay
caregivers who provide one-to-one Christian care to anyone facing a crisis or life
challenge. The recipient of the care may be
bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed or
relocated. The system is
designed to support and assist the Pastor and congregation, and provide
quality caring for those in need. Please contact Dick Gardner if you are
interested in this ministry.
